A Symphonie in Lights, Lasers and Video









With “autoSYMPHONICS”, this summer the city of Mannheim / Germany saw an amazing multimedia event on the 125th aniversary of automobilism.

For the very first time, “autoSYMPHONICS”, a symphonie in light, Video and Sound, thrilled around 17.000 audience and left them indeed breathless. “autoSYMPHONICS” shows a retrospective on 125 years history of automobiles and also gives a clue, what the future might bring.

In preparation for the event, the whole “Friedrichsplatzanlage” in the heart of Mannheim was turned in a huge concert arena. Heading the main stage, Germanys top pop act “Söhne Mannheims” opened the stage, furtheron 80 cars also took part in the symphonic event. More than 800 sound like closing car doors where integrated in the unique hymn of composer Joannou Elia.

On a more visual side, the multimedia design by Horst Hamanns and lighting designer Thomas Gerdon thrilled the audience. The whole place and the entire Building where involved and enlightend by the light- and laserinstallation.

In terms of video, the “autoSYMPHONICS” also made it to the edge. More than 600 square meters of G-LEC Phantom 30 were supplied by a joint venture by around Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH and Videotechnik Bär, and the entire rigging for this installation was provided by Rent Event Tec GmbH, Mannheim. More than half of these G-LEC Frames where installed around the main stage under the supervision of head of the video department Jens Diefenbach from m:con Mannheim.
